• TV Audience

In the past few years the tv audiences have changed dramaticly as too has the content. In the past couple of years there has been an increse in the amount of “dispatches” style documentries. These documentries highlight one area of our society that the audience will feel passionate about (Bankers taking our money). The more reaction the audience make the more that these will be made.

• Music Audiences

In relation to my last post, the biggest change in the Music Audiences is that the main place of purchase now is online. This is different to older audiences who primarily bought music in a shop.

• Film Audiences

Like i mentioned last week with 3D, 3D has had huge popularity over the past couple of years. This has been lead by both the industry and the audience. I have found over the past couple of years that whilst there are members of society who are critical of 3D, that there still is a large audience who like 3D

A recent innovation in TransMedia is Syfy’s new TV series/MMO “Defiance”. Defiance is both a MMORPG and a TV series within the same universe and using the same characters. Although the MMO starts in a time before the story in the series, The series creator says that players in the game will be a driving force to where the series will go. This is an innovation because it has the potential for fans of the series to have a direct affect on the series and be able to play within the exact universe.

• Innovation in music

Last year in the UK album sales were down 12.4% whilst digital album sales were up 30.6%. This shows that people are still willing to buy music but want it in the digital format. This can be seen as a recent innovation in music because for the past 100 years the music has been sold with physical copies and the music industry has been relucatant to move into the digital world due to piracy. Because of places like iTunes and the Amazon store it has created a place that gives the industry to sell their items exactly how the buyer wants.

• Innovation in film

Although the use of 3D in film has been used since the 1950’s, in the last 3 years their has been a revival of 3D films. The main one was the 2009 release of Avatar. This film had unprecedented success world wide costing $237,000,000 to make but generating $2,782,275,172 at the box office. I class 3D as an innovation in film because although it has been done before, it has never been as successful with many films being marketed on 3D alone (Piranha 3DD). The rise in popularity of 3D and the affordability of 3D tv’s it could be here to stay longer than we had anticipated.

When do you access? On what platforms? What is consumed?

I typically access Media during the day in any free time i have. An example of this is whilst waiting for a bus i will be checking different news sites on my mobile phone. When at home i typically play a game whilst streaming videos/or reading the news.

What will you pay for?

I typically only buy media products that i either can’t get illegally or if i find it to justify the purchase. I have been very disappointed with some purchases in the past so i like to see what it is first.

How has your consumption changed over past 5 years? What
has changed? What has stayed the same?

My taste of music has changed from Mainstream Rap to more underground Rap and Metal music. I find my self playing more games during my free time and reading the news a lot more.

How might it change over the next 5 years?

I think in the next 5 years i will start to spend more money as i will have more disposable. I think it will primarily digital content.

Well for my first post I want to talk about my experiences of the games of Domination that i had this afternoon. I came across alot of things that annoyed me from various games.

The Slayer

The main one being people who join the game just to farm kills and completely avoid playing the objective. An example of this was the first game that I played on Dome; During the game the opposition team was basicly full of players who finished with 40< with less than 10 deaths. Yes it was an impressive K/D to add to your stats, but they lost the game by over 50 points. The reason why they lost it is somewhat down to me, i sacrificed my K/D in order to down every piece of air support and capture objective points. It was by far one of the worst scores i have got on the game, but i played the objective what is more important than preserving your stats.

Below you will find one of the games that I played on Domination and you could say that my K/D appears to be that type of player, but I can read a game and anticipate where the opponent will attack from. It basicly allowed me to stop any incoming attack that the opponent would launch on either of my objectives

The AWOL player

The second type of player is related to the other type, but dosent have enough skill to mount an offence that will clear an objective for the capture of an objective. The player basicly runs around the map like a headless chicken and avoids all the objective zones. This to me is detremental to the team as at least with the “Slayer” above kills opponents who are going for the objective points whereas the AWOL player dosent contribute to the team by defending objective points or attacking with other team members; where as the AWOL player wont defend or attack an objective and will play for him self.

Although it might sound vague I will try and describe one scenario.

Our team was losing by 3 points at about the 185 point mark, me and the other 4 team mates were all franticly trying to capture an objective, I look at the mini map and see that the player was the other side of the map camping out hoping to see someone or something (no where near our objective). We ended up losing that match because he wouldnt play the objective and was more concerned in preserving his K/D.

The point i am trying to make is that Domination is an objective based game mode, if you are playing for the sole purpose of farming kills, or even worse spawn trapping…go play TDM..The game mode what is based on kills. The same can be said for those who will refuse to play the objective and finish with no captures or defends.

Also a smaller note, what’s with Dome popping up every other game of Domination? I know its easy to get kills on, but why spend money on a game you only play one map, seams kind of redundant to me.
